Ocean View Traumatic Brain Injury Physiotherapy Industry Leaders

What Is Traumatic Brain Injury Physiotherapy?

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) physiotherapy is a form of rehabilitation focused on helping people recover and rebuild physical function following a brain injury caused by an external force; such as a fall, motor vehicle accident, assault or sporting injury. Acquired brain injury (ABI) physiotherapy addresses a broader category of brain injury that includes conditions such as hypoxic brain injury, infection-related brain damage and other non-traumatic causes.

Brain injury can affect movement, balance, coordination, strength, sensation, cognition and the ability to carry out everyday tasks. Recovery is a long-term process, and physiotherapy plays a critical role in maximising neuroplastic recovery and supporting individuals to regain as much independence and function as possible.

At Physio Inq, our TBI physiotherapists deliver rehabilitation in the home and community, ensuring therapy takes place in the environments that matter most to the individual’s daily life and recovery. We work with people at all stages of brain injury recovery, from acute rehabilitation through to long-term management.

What our TBI physiotherapists can help with:

  • Gait retraining and walking rehabilitation
  • Balance, coordination and falls prevention
  • Upper and lower limb strength and function
  • Safe movement, transfers and positioning
  • Spasticity and tone management
  • Fatigue management strategies
  • Functional independence in daily tasks
  • Return to activity, work or community participation
  • NDIS functional capacity assessments
  • Carer and family education

All programs are developed in partnership with the individual, their family and the broader care and rehabilitation team.

How We Deliver TBI Physiotherapy

Physio Inq delivers traumatic brain injury physiotherapy across three service channels, designed to provide consistent and accessible rehabilitation throughout the recovery journey.

In Your Home

Home-based TBI rehabilitation is often the most appropriate starting point following hospital discharge. Working in the home allows our physiotherapists to address the specific movement challenges the person encounters in their daily environment; such as navigating the home safely, getting on and off furniture, managing fatigue throughout the day, and building confidence in familiar spaces.

Delivering therapy at home also removes the significant logistical and physical demands that can come with travelling to a clinic, which is especially important for people in the early stages of recovery.

In Your Community

As recovery progresses, Physio Inq can deliver physiotherapy in community settings to support reintegration and participation in activities outside the home. This may include sessions in local parks, gyms, community centres or supported accommodation environments.

Online (Telehealth)

Telehealth TBI physiotherapy is available for exercise program delivery, carer coaching, progress reviews and ongoing management. It is particularly useful as a complement to in-person sessions or for clients in regional and rural areas.

Who We Support

Physio Inq’s TBI physiotherapy services are available to people at all stages of brain injury recovery, and to the families and carers who support them.

People in Acute and Post-Acute Recovery

Following discharge from hospital or a rehabilitation facility, in-home physiotherapy provides the consistent, structured support needed to build on progress made in acute care. Our physiotherapists work closely with the treating medical and rehabilitation team to ensure continuity of care.

People in Long-Term Recovery

For people who are living with the long-term effects of TBI or ABI, physiotherapy supports maintenance of function, management of ongoing physical challenges, and prevention of secondary complications such as falls, contractures or deconditioning.

NDIS Participants

Physio Inq is a registered NDIS provider. TBI and ABI physiotherapy can be funded under Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living supports. We support self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed participants and coordinate with support coordinators and plan managers throughout the process.

Children and Young People with Brain Injury

We provide paediatric TBI and ABI physiotherapy for children and young people, delivered at home, in school or in the community. Our physiotherapists work with the child’s family, school and allied health team to ensure a coordinated approach to rehabilitation.

Families and Carers

Families and carers play a central role in brain injury recovery. Our physiotherapists provide carer education, practical guidance and clear communication throughout the rehabilitation process to support safe care at home.
