Benefits of Telehealth Over Traditional Therapy

1. Location Independence
Telehealth Speech Pathology allows clients to access therapy from any location. This is especially beneficial for those who live in remote areas without nearby speech pathology clinics or for those who frequently travel.

2. Reduced Travel & Associated Costs.
Clients no longer need to factor in travel time, transportation costs, or parking fees. This is particularly advantageous for those with mobility challenges or those without easy access to transportation.

3. Flexible Scheduling.
Telehealth provides a distinct advantage in terms of scheduling flexibility. For families with children, it can be challenging to juggle school hours, extracurricular activities, and other clinic appointments. Telehealth allows for therapy sessions to be scheduled around these commitments, ensuring that children don't miss out on crucial interventions.

For the aged care and elderly sector, traditional clinic hours might clash with other medical appointments or the preferred routines of older individuals. Telehealth can accommodate these unique needs, offering sessions at times that don't disrupt the established schedules of our senior population. This flexibility ensures that elderly clients receive consistent care without overburdening their already busy medical and personal calendars.

4. Comfort & Familiarity
Receiving therapy in one's own home can reduce anxiety and help clients feel more at ease, especially children or those who might be intimidated by a clinical setting.

5. Safety & Health
Telehealth eliminates the risk of exposure to potential illnesses in clinic waiting rooms, a significant advantage during flu seasons, pandemics, or for immunocompromised individuals.

6. Consistency in Attendance
Bad weather, transportation issues, or minor illnesses might cause clients to miss in-clinic appointments. Telehealth reduces these barriers, ensuring more consistent therapy attendance.

7. Expertise Across All Domains of Speech Pathology
Telehealth isn't just about convenience; it provides access to a wealth of knowledge in every facet of speech pathology. Our team, dedicated full-time to the telehealth speech pathology space, is skilled in all areas, from paediatrics to aged care. This full-time dedication ensures that every client receives tailored care suited to their unique needs, backed by the latest advancements and best practices in telehealth.

For families with children, it's vital to have support from those well-versed in paediatric speech pathology. Early intervention is crucial, and our team, with their focused expertise in telehealth, is adept at addressing the developmental challenges children might face, all while accommodating the busy schedules of school and extracurricular activities.

In the aged care and elderly sector, distinct challenges arise. Our experts, who have honed their skills specifically in the telehealth domain, understand the intricacies of speech and communication issues that can emerge with age. They're trained to offer therapy that not only fits seamlessly into the daily routines of our senior clients but also addresses their specific needs with care and precision.

By opting for Telehealth with us, clients are not just selecting a convenient mode of therapy; they're ensuring that they're connected with professionals who are fully immersed and trained in the telehealth speech pathology landscape, be it paediatrics, aged care, or any other area of speech pathology.

8. Enhanced Resources & Tools
Telehealth platforms often integrate advanced digital tools, interactive apps, and resources that can enhance the therapy experience beyond what might be available in a traditional clinic setting.

9. Immediate Documentation & Feedback
Digital platforms can provide real-time feedback, progress tracking, and session recordings, allowing clients and therapists to review and reflect on sessions as needed.

10. Family & Caregiver Involvement
Telehealth makes it easier for family members or caregivers to be involved in the therapy process, attending sessions or receiving direct guidance from therapists on how to support the client's speech journey at home.

While in-clinic speech pathology offers the advantage of face-to-face interaction in a professional setting, Telehealth Speech Pathology presents a suite of benefits tailored to the contemporary needs of both individual clients and their families. It provides a harmonious blend of convenience, innovation, and flexibility. Moreover, with Telehealth, clients often benefit from reduced waiting lists, making it an increasingly attractive option for many seeking timely speech therapy.

There is no difference. The term speech pathology is more commonly used in Australia than speech therapy, however they are both the same profession. All speech pathologists/therapists are required to complete a university qualification and be registered with Speech Pathology Australia.

Early Intervention is the term used to describe the services and supports that are available to babies and young children with developmental delays and disabilities and their families. Speech Pathology has been shown to be very effective as part of an early intervention program.

Yes - Speech Pathology does work for toddlers.

Speech pathologists are university trained professionals who can help toddlers with:

  • Speech and sound generation
  • language development
  • Reading and writing
  • Social skills
  • Stuttering

Speech Pathologists assist toddlers find the best way to communicate to meet their needs. This might include strategies to improve speech clarity or fluency, or signs, symbols, gestures, and other forms of assisted communication.

Speech Pathologists can work in kindergartens and schools, hospitals, early intervention programs, community health centres, mental health services and private practice.

Your child may benefit from Speech Therapy if they are struggling with communication including:

  • Not formulating words or communicating at age appropriate levels
  • Problems with others understanding what they are saying
  • Difficulty understanding what other people say.
  • Frustration with difficulty with communication
  • Difficulty projecting their voice
  • Stuttering, or
  • A speech impediment/list

Yes - Speech pathology can have great results with adults. When we think of lisps and speech impediments, we often only think of children. Yet, there are many reasons why adults could benefit from speech therapy.

An adult who would benefit from speech pathology might have the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty speaking clearly
  • Issues with swallowing
  • Difficulty stringing words and phrases together
  • Difficulty reading and writing
  • Dry mouth
  • Stuttering and lisps
  • Chronic sore throat or pain in the vocal cords

Yes - A speech pathologist is trained to assess and treat stuttering. If a child stutters for some years, it can be harmful, even if natural recovery occurs without therapy.

For this reason, it is recommended that all pre-school children who start to stutter receive therapy.

For older children, adolescents and adults, a speech pathologist can recommend treatment to reduce the impact of stuttering on daily life.

Speech therapy assists with challenges of language and communication often experienced by people with autism spectrum disorder. It can help people with autism improve their verbal, nonverbal, and social communication.

A speech pathologist may look to improve spoken language, assist in development or improvement of nonverbal skills such as gestures or signs, or work with someone to learn to communicate using an alternative method (such as pictures or technology).

Under the NDIS scheme we have access to interpreters who can be arranged free of charge to come to the initial assessment to assist with the appointment.

Simply let us know if you need this and we will arrange this for you.

Otherwise, we are able to organise sessions when family members might be present to assist with communication, or match the client with a therapist who speaks the same language if that is available.
